Justus Schenk was born in Germany, Dec. 19, 1839 and died at his home thirteen miles northwest of Ainsworth, Friday, Nov. 24, 1916 at 11:30 a.m., aged 76 years, 11 months and 5 days.
Mr. Schenk came to Grand Island in 1885 and to Brown County in 1886 and settled on a homestead where he remained until his death. He leaves an aged wife, two daughters, Mrs. Dan Arner of Fairbury, Nebr., and Mrs. Henry Dreesen of Richmond, Mo.; two sons, Adolph and George who own farms joining Mr. Schenk.
Mr. Schenk was an artist in his spare moments and painted many beautiful pictures many of which now adorn his home.
Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 1:30 conducted by Rev. G. W. Gregory, of Johnstown. The Johnstown quartet furnished the music. The last sad service was largely attended by his many friends and neighbors. Interment - made in Grand Prairie cemetery.
All the children were present except Mrs. Dreesen who was not able to come.
