GRIMM, Neil L.


Neil L. Grimm, 86 of Fremont, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at Nye Legacy Health and Rehab in Fremont. Services will be Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Michael Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Cemetery with military honors by the Fremont Honor Guard (VFW Post 854 & American Legion Post 20). Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church. Neil L. Grimm was born Nov. 26, 1926 on a farm southeast of Wayne to Nels and Metta (Pedersen) Grimm. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wayne. He attended Country School District #8 and graduated from Wayne High School in 1944. Neil served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in Korea with the Occupation Forces. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal. Upon returning home he was a heavy equipment operator for five years. In 1953 Neil moved to Fremont and began working at the George A. Hormel Company in the store room office, retiring in 1989 after 36 years. Neil was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont and served on the Church Council. He served as Chairman of the Stewardship and Evangelism Committees, usher and Bible Study leader. He was an assistant Scout Master of Troop #102 of Fremont, member of American Legion Post #43 at Wayne and a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post # 4912 at West Point. Neil married Bernice M. Wegner on June 11, 1961. Survivors include his wife, Bernice; two sons, David and Julie Grimm of Fremont and Mark and Shelly Grimm of Gretna; one sister, Nancy Price of Chesterfield, Mo.; one granddaughter and five grandsons Ludvigsen Mortuaries in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
