HUBBARD, Neb. -- Helen J. Rasmussen, 85, of Hubbard passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hubbard, with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Hubbard. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Catholic Daughters of America Court Mary Our Queen No. 2055 at 4:30 p.m., followed by a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. There will be no visitation at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Helen was born July 20, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of John L. and Lillie M. (Sargisson) Reilly. She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1944. She was a resident of Hubbard for 70 years. Throughout her life Helen enjoyed the company of family and friends and always enjoyed a good conversation over a cup of coffee. She married Marvin E. Rasmussen on Nov. 12, 1945, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hubbard. Mr. Rasmussen died on Jan. 15, 2005, in Sioux City. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America Court Mary Our Queen, St. Mary's Altar Society, Harty-McNally American Legion Auxiliary, the Hillside Club and Dakota County 4-H. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Eugene and Mary Rasmussen of Ames, Iowa, and Mark and Sharon Rasmussen of Severn, Md.; a daughter, Carol Pennell of Sioux City; two sisters, Charlotte Eisenmenger of Cherokee, Iowa, and JoAnn Swoboda of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Marian Reilly of Aurelia, Iowa, and Pat Rasmussen of Hubbard; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Marvin E. Rasmussen; a brother, Robert; a sister, Bernice; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; and a granddaughter, Lea. Pallbearers will be Tom, Evan and Eric Nettleton, Roger Peterson, Larry Reilly and Gary Eriksen.
