Arnim Stark age 91 Posted: 28 January, 2013 Funeral services for Arnim Stark age 91 of Laurel will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Laurel on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Officiate Rev. William Engebretsen. Visitation will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Laurel on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present. Interment with Military Rites at the Laurel Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. He passed away Monday at Providence Medical Center Wayne. Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Laurel. He attended parochial school in Martinsburg through eighth grade, attended public school in Martinsburg through 10th grade, and graduated from Allen Public School in 1939. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg. Arnim was drafted during WWII into Uncle Sam’s army in 1942. He met his future wife that fall at a house dance. He went into the service late fall of 1942, and was sent to Fort Cook, Omaha and then to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and finally to Ft., Sheridan, Ill.where he was in training in Antiaircraft. He was able to come home a few weekends. On one of those weekends, he came home on a three day pass and was married to Lila Mae Sherman, May 18, 1943 at the home of the bride's parents in rural Dixon. He was shipped overseas in 1943. His duties took him to several small islands in the South Pacific. He was finally stationed in the Russell Islands for a year where he spent time as a personnel clerk. Later, they shipped to New Guinea Island for 5-6 months. Then he was shipped in route to Japan when the war ended in 1945. He then spent some time on the Philippines until he was shipped home in 1946. Following his time in the military the couple farmed near Laurel. Arnim is survived by the love of his life, Lila Mae, and four children: Larry of Laurel, Dennis (Brenda) of Juniata, Kenneth (Janice) of rural Dixon, Kathleen (William) Rudy of Dinuba, CA, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one brother, Gilmer (Mary) Stark of Laurel, sisters-in-law, Velma Bottorf of Ponca and June Sherman of Vermillion, SD, and many nieces and nephews. Arnim was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Verna Domsch; a brother, Wilmer Stark; an infant son, Barry Stark; as well as many cousins.
