BARBE, Arlene Mae

Arlene Mae Barbe, was born Dec. 11, 1927 at Clarkson, Nebraska to Frank Jr. and Emma (Houfek) Castka and she died at the Stanton Health Center on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011. She was baptized as an infant. She received her schooling in the Colfax County schools until moving to Stanton with her family in 1942 where she graduated from high school in 1945. After graduation, she was employed at the Farmer's Union Grocery Store in Stanton for several years. On June 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to William C. Barbe at the New England Congregational Church in Stanton and two children were born to this union. They lived in the same house that they built in 1952 all of their married life. She continued to live there until she entered the Stanton Health Center in 2010. After her husband's death in 1977, she was employed at Bestt Decorator's in Norfolk until 1980 when she began working for the Farmer's Union Coop in Stanton until her retirement in 1994. Her hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening, embroidering, and she was also a professional seamstress making all of her children's clothing during their childhood. She was a member of the New England Congregational Church in Stanton for over 60 years and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary 3602. Survivors include her children, Robert and his wife Renee of Omaha and Lynette and her husband David Wells of Norfolk; grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler and Cody Wells of Norfolk and William M. and Andrea Barbe of Omaha and cousins, Janice Knaak, Alma Meyer, Arlene Blankenau and Elden Bos and the late Marvin KLimes. Pallbearers are her grandsons, William M. Barbe, Ryan, Tyler & Cody Wells and Larry Knaak and Donald Whipple. Honorary pallbearers is a granddaughter, Andrea Barbe and neighbors, Joe Quinn, Dale Wegner, Ronald Pohlman, Shad Pohlman, Robert Bates, Daniel Bates and Wilfred Hasenkamp.
