Hastings resident, Karen K. Dirks, 70 died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE, Services will be Monday, July 21, 2008 at 2 PM at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE with the Rev. Adam White officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 12 noon to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Karen was born, April 10, 1938 to Lester and Darlene (Albers) McCoy in Hastings, NE. She married Byron Piel in 1954, they later divorced. She married Alan Dirks in 1974 he passed away in 2004. She lived in Denver and worked for 14 years for the United Airlines, she also lived in Las Vegas before moving back to Hastings, NE. She lived at Perkins Pavilion, GSV for the past 4 years. Karen was a member of the First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE. She is survived by her 3 sons: Lonie of San Diego, CA, and Bernard and Alan both of Grand Island, NE. 3 grandsons, Bernard Hanson, and Joshua and Danny Piel. Her mother, Darlene Thein of Hastings, NE and 2 sisters Sharon Powell of Hastings, NE. and Jane Dowse of Harvard, NE and 1 brother, Doug Strohl of Littleton, CO. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester McCoy, and 2 husbands, Byron Piel and Alan Dirks.
