Alphonse Balasa, age 87, of Aurora, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Father John Keefe will officiate. Interment will be at the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Friday, with the Rosary being recited at 5:00 P.M. at Higby Mortuary. OBITUARY: ALPHONSE BALASA Alphonse Joseph Balasa, the son of John and Eva (Shefcyk) Balasa, was born in Polk County, Nebraska on March 14, 1913 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on March 8, 2001, at the age of 87 years. As a child he grew up in the Columbus area and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School, later moving to Fullerton where he started farming at an early age due to the death of his father. Alphonse was united in marriage to Eunice Herbig on August 22, 1959 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. After marrying they moved to the St. Edward area and continued farming. They later moved to Marquette and then Aurora where he continued farming until he retired. Alphonse was a member of St. Mary’ Church, where he ushered, served mass and was active helping with all other church activities, including belonging to the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed listening to polka music any chance he could get. His parents and brother, John, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Aurora; daughter, Priscilla Balasa of Aurora and sister, Loretta Helgeth of Seattle, Washington.
