Harold Bachman, age 87, of Giltner, died Friday, November 4, 2005, at his home in Giltner.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 8th at the United Methodist Church in Giltner. Revs. Larry Michael-Rush and Paul Naumann will officiate. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. on Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. OBITUARY: HAROLD BACHMAN
Harold Edward Bachman, the son of Fredrick and Pearl (Omel) Bachman, was born on a farm near Stanford, Illinois on January 7, 1918 and died in Giltner, Nebraska on November 4, 2005, at the age of 87.
Harold lived in Stanford until the age of 3, when in 1921 the family moved to Giltner. He attended Douglas Country School near Giltner completing the 8th grade, after that he helped his parents on the farm. Harold enlisted in the military in 1942, serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, where he was stationed in Bremerton, Washington. He was honorably discharged in December 1945.
Harold was united in marriage to Vera Stiegemeier on April 8, 1944 in Aurora. After the war, he returned to farm near Giltner until he retired. They had four children; Dale, Roger, Grace and Catherine.
For Harold farming was his life, he loved the outdoors. He always enjoyed the harvesting of the crops and growing a large garden. Harold also enjoyed the morning coffee socials.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Roger Allen Bachman; four brothers, George, Carl, Earl and Roy Bachman and two sisters, Edith Luthy and Leta Bachman.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Vera Bachman; son, Dale Bachman of Giltner; two daughters, Grace (Jim) Holtzen of Aurora and Catherine (Richard) Sekora of Grand Island; 2 grandsons, Adam Sekora and Blake Sekora. He is also survived by a brother, Elmer Bachman of Giltner; a sister, Viola Dolen of Huntington Beach, California and nieces, nephews and friends.
