Earl Bachman, age 77, of Giltner, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at his home of pancreatic cancer.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 19th at the United Methodist Church in Giltner. Rev. Nora Mendyk will officiate. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. on Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to the Giltner United Methodist Church or Grand Island Hospice. OBITUARY: EARL BACHMAN
Earl Edwin Bachman, the son of Fredrick and Pearl (Omel) Bachman, was born on a farm near Giltner, Nebraska on July 19, 1926 and died in Giltner, Nebraska on June 17, 2004, at the age of 77.
Earl grew up on a farm near Giltner and graduated from Giltner High School in 1943. Following graduation, he served in the Navy during WWII. After the war he returned to Giltner to farm.
Earl was united in marriage to Verla Hunnicutt on February 21, 1950, at the First Christian Church in Giltner. Earl farmed until his retirement in 1985. During retirement, they spent several winters in Arizona.
Earl was a member of the United Methodist Church in Giltner. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion, had been a past member of the Giltner Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rites and a volunteer for the Giltner Fire Department. Earl enjoyed woodworking, gardening and his grandchildren and coffee with his friends. He also enjoyed his many friends at the YMCA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Edith Luthy and Leta Grace Bachman and three brothers George Bachman, Carl Bachman and an infant brother.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Verla; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug (Kathleen) Bachman and Denis (Catherine) Bachman all of Giltner; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy (Phil) Smith of Aurora; 9 grandchildren, Misty (Kevin) Muff, Krystal (Scott) Siebrandt, Lance Bachman, Trisha Bachman and her fiancée Zachary Van Diest, Sarah Bachman, Michael Bachman, Kacie (Jason) Highsmith, Kylee Smith and Tyler Smith; 2 great-grandchildren, Karlie Muff and Tanner Muff. He is also survived by two brothers, Harold Bachman and Elmer Bachman both of Giltner and one sister, Viola Dolan of Huntington Beach, California.
