Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 18, 1991 at the Aurora Messiah Lutheran Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.
OBITUARY: Marion “Bud” Anderson
Marion L. “Bud” Anderson, the son of Gus and Della (Cox) Anderson, was born at Shelton, Nebraska, on October 28, 1922, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on November 14, 1991, at the age of 69 years and 16 days.
The family moved from Shelton to Giltner, where he attended school in Phillips and Giltner, and graduated from Giltner High School. After graduation, he worked at the Ordinance Plant in Grand Island. In the Spring of 1942, he signed a major league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, however, his baseball career was interrupted by World War II.
On February 11, 1943, he entered the United States Army, and during World War II, he served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theater, and served in the Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, and Norther Appennines Battles, receiving the Purple Heart in Livergnano, Italy. He was discharged on November 17, 1945, and returned to Nebraska, and worked for Hamilton County.
On June 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Elaine Roark at Central City.
After marriage he worked for Grosshans International in Central City, and later Ralph Olson’s Ford Tractor Dealership in Aurora, S & F Farm Store in Grand Island. He then owned his own repair shop and gas station at Phillips, and later worked for John Deere at Shelton and Central City. In the mid 1970’s he moved to Aurora and worked at the Farmers Union, and later he worked at Toners International in Grand Island for 2 years. In 1984 he opened Anderson’s Sales and Service in Aurora.
Bud was a member of the Aurora Messiah Lutheran Church, and was active in the American Legion, and was a past Commander. He was involved in the American Legion Baseball Program for 47 years. On November 5, 1990, he spearheaded the drive for the Veterans Memorial Monument, which will be dedicated upon completion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Shirley Sweeney and Delores Henman, and one grandson.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Elaine of Aurora; 2 sons, Larry of Grand Island and Thomas of Aurora. 3 brothers, Gene of Clinton, Arkansas, and Bob and Don both of Sun City, Arizona, and 4 grandchildren.
