Lily Barbara Weinman Kinish, 90, of Grand Island, formerly of Anselmo, Gothenburg, and Alda, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 of congestive heart failure at the Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Mike McDermott will officiate. Burial will be on Tuesday at 3:30 P.M. at the St. Anselm’s Cemetery in Anselmo. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Lily was the second of nine children born to William F. & Emma M. (Janesofsky) Weinmann on October 14, 1915 at Round Valley, Nebraska. Survivors of the immediate family include five daughters and three sons-in-laws, Barbara & Floyd Dunn of Rushford, Minnesota, Angela & Wayne Booton of Marshall, Michigan, Lois & Bill Hickey of Willow Island, Virginia Hickey of Alda and Karen Tullis and her fiancé Mike Joebgen of Rapid City, South Dakota; one son and daughter-in-law, Edward & Karen Kinish of Brady; one son-in-law, Kenneth O’Mara of Eddyville; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Joy Potter, and Ploma & Morris Geiser of Kearney. Additional survivors include 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren, and one more on the way; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Lily attended school at Round Valley District #66 through the 4th grade. The family then moved to Loup County where she completed her schooling to 8th grade at Lookout School District #26, graduating in 1930. Lily did domestic work, helping various families, caring and cooking for them and even delivering babies. Her family then moved south of Arnold in 1931. She went to work for the Kinish family after the death of their mother in 1935. She was baptized into the Catholic faith and on June 10, 1935, she married Arthur Edward Kinish at Anselmo. The couple lived and farmed, and retired on this farm until Arthur’s death on September 7, 1984. This farm won a pioneer award in 2001having been owned by Arthur’s parents previously. Lily had a love for the outdoors and always a large garden, also chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, and milked cows. She was known for the many quilts she made and gave to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all pieced on her treadle sewing machine. She loved to embroidery, cook, bake, and can. She enjoyed submitting her handiwork and canning to the county fair where she won numerous awards. Her large yard in Gothenburg was featured as yard of the week. She loved her family, and friends, and always had a poem or song for them. She was a member of St. Anselm’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Gothenburg, and Resurrection Catholic Church in Grand Island. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Sarah O’Mara on May 20, 2005; her parents; two sisters, Rosie Schipporeit, and Virginia Oberg; four brothers, Adolph, Paul, Howard, and Billie, and her son-in-law, Mike Hickey.
