Jerry L. Meyer, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, April 28, 2006 at the St. Francis Medical Center.
Memorial services will be on Monday at 10:30 A.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate.
Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Cremation will take place at Westlawn Memorial Park Crematory. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Meyer was born on April 15, 1934 at Grand Island to Arnold & Viola (Bove) Meyer.
Survivors of the immediate family include two sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara & Richard Gillham of Doniphan, and Carol Grimminger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Additional survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Meyer received his education in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1951. He then attended St. Paul’s College in Concordia, Missouri.
He entered the United States Marines on September 16, 1953, and was honorably discharged on September 15, 1956. He then attended the University of Nebraska where he received his degree in Agriculture.
Mr. Meyer then moved to California where he was employed as a matrede at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. Mr. Meyer then owned and operated the Fishery Restaurant in Monterey California from October 1978 until August of 1995.
After his retirement, he spent his winters in Thailand, and his summers at his home in Carmel Valley, California.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Monterey, California.
Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by his parents.
