HEHNKE, Alvena L.

Alvena L. Hehnke, 99, of Grand Island died Monday, March 13, 2006, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church preceded by a family prayer service in the church chapel at 10:15 A.M. The Rev. Royce Rinehart will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 P.M. Mrs. Hehnke was born January 31, 1907, at Campbell, NE to August and Anna (Reiss) Kuhlman. Survivors of the immediate family include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Doris Hehnke of Grand Island Additional survivors include two grandchildren and their spouses, Linda and Stephen Douglas of Grand Island and Mitchell and Andrea Hehnke of Omaha; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Alvena received her primary education at Campbell and attended Grand Island Business College. She married Fred E. Hehnke on February 11, 1934, in Grand Island. She worked at the Yancey Hotel for over 20 years serving banquet dinners. The couple lived in Mason City, Iowa from 1965 to 1977. They then returned to Grand Island. Alvena was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards, crocheting and fishing. She was preceded in by her husband in 1990; six brothers; two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are suggested Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Diabetes Association or St. Francis Hospice.
