Gladys V. (Zlomke) Wynn, 96, of Lexington, formerly of Grand Island died Friday, March 10, 2006 at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
Graveside services will be on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wynn was born December 30, 1909 at the family farm in Merrick County, Nebraska, the youngest of 16 children to Bernhard & Bertha (Kandler) Zlomke.
She is survived by fIVE nieces, Sharyn Marcy of Evergreen, Colorado, Judith Mikelson and Charlene Sanders both of Centennial, Colorado, Linda Cantrell of Helena, Montana, and Janiece (Kitty) Lueth of Grand Island; one nephew, Jack Jacobsen of Grand Island; and many great nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Grand Island High School in 1927, she continued her education through the Grand Island Beauty School, after which she operated her own beauty salon in Grand Island for many years.
She married Simon D. Wynn on July 25, 1936 in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple lived in Grand Island for a time, and then moved to California. They had no children of their own, but were blessed with many nieces and nephews. During their marriage they traveled when possible and always enjoyed fishing.
After retirement, they returned to Nebraska, living in Lexington for the past 25 years. Simon preceded her in death on December 17, 1996. She has been a resident at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington since July 2002.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
