WALTER, Alvin E.


Alvin E. Walter, 83, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Beverly Healthcare at Lakeview. Graveside services will be on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at the Ewing, Nebraska cemetery. The Rev. Costa Oliveira will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mr. Walter was born on July 1, 1922 in Ewing to John & Mary (Daniels) Walter. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Laura of Grand Island; two daughters, Pat Shriner of Alda, and Janet Walter of Lincoln; two sons, Dean Walter of Glenmore, PA., and Stanley Walter of Washington; two sisters, Gladys Walter of Grand Island, and Avis Walter of Waverly. Additional survivors include 4 grandchildren. Mr. Walter received his education in Ewing, and graduated from Ewing High School. He married Laura Urban on December 20, 1942 in Ewing. Mr. Walter served with the Seabees from April of 1943, until he was honorably discharged in October of 1945. He then attended Grand Island Business College. Mr. Walter was employed as an accountant in Grand Island for many years. He enjoyed being the family repairman, especially working on cars. He loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed animals and gardening. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and Isaac Walton. Mr. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Lavina Stamp, and Irene Lichty.
