GRANSTROM, Jack O.


Jack O. Granstrom, 84, of Higley, Arizona, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the Greenfield Assisted Living Center in Higley. Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Randy Fett will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mr. Granstrom was born on August 30, 1921 at Vancouver, Washington to John and Ellen (Olson) Granstrom. Survivors of the immediate family include one daughter, Susan Buxton of Gilbert, Arizona; and one son and daughter-in-law, Jack G. & Darla Granstrom of Gilbert, Airzona. Additional survivors include one grandson, Zachary of Gilbert, Arizona. Mr. Granstrom grew up and was educated in Hockinson, Washington; Portland, Oregon; and Ashland, Nebraska. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1939. He was employed as a deputy clerk in the Saunders County Treasurer’s office in Wahoo in 1941-1942. Mr. Granstrom served with the Air Force in World War II from September 1942 until October 1945. He served in Egypt, Libya, and Italy. He then began working for the Veterans Administration in July of 1946 at the VA Hospital in Portland, Oregon, and then at the VA Hospitals in Vancouver, Washington and Kansas City, Missouri. He retired in August 1976 as the Fiscal Officer at the VA Medical Center in Grand Island. He married Betty A Degen on March 10, 1957 in Grand Island. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1992. Mr. Granstrom was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, having served on the Congregational Council, and also as church treasurer. He was also a member of the Grand Island B.P.O. Elks Lodge #604, and the VFW Post 1347 in Grand Island.
