Michael ‘Mike’ Roenfeldt, 62, of Grand Island, died Friday, January 6, 2006 in Hospice care at the St. Francis Skilled Care Unit.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Fathers Francis T. Curran, Bernard Berger and Harold Kurtenbach officiating.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. with a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Following the service, Mr. Roenfeldt will be cremated, and burial will take place at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Roenfeldt was born on February 14, 1943 at Grand Island to Henry J. and Hazel (Francis) Roenfeldt.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Joann Roenfeldt of Grand Island; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patty & David Chase of Greenwood, and Sheila Roenfeldt of Grand Island; two sisters and brother-in-law, Betty & Melvin Eickhoff of St. Louis, Joan Johnson of Hastings; two brothers-in-law, George and his wife Joyce Berger of West Allis, Wisconsin, and Father Bernard Berger of Valentine.
Additional survivors include his grandson, Connor Michael Chase of Greenwood; and a host of loyal friends.
Mike received his education in Grand Island.
He married Joann Berger on November 9, 1963 at St. Michael’s Church in Spalding, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Grand Island.
Mr. Roenfeldt was employed at St. Francis Hospital, Rainbow Bakery and for 26 years at the Nebraska Veterans Home.
Mike was a member of Blessed Sacrament parish, the Sons of the American Legion, and the Grand Island Saddle Club. He was an Admiral in the mythical navy of the State of Nebraska.
He wants to be remembered for the way he loved his family and the pleasure he experienced being “Papa” to his grandson.
His interests included football, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and horse racing. He took great pride in caring for his home and yard. He was a long time Elvin Presley fan, had visited Graceland twice and had extensive Elvis memorabilia and music collections.
