Virginia M. Hargens, of Gering, Nebraska, formerly of Cairo, died Friday, December 16, 2005 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Gering.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Randy Fett will officiate.
Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hargens was born on May 4, 1928 at Grand Island to Edward and Edith (Claussen) Tagge.
Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rob & Ginger Hargens of Minatare, Nebraska, and Leslie & Deb Hargens of Cairo; one daughter and son-in-law, Karolee & Ron Kalinowski of Gering; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice & Allen Tucker of Grand Island, and Jeanette & Jim Andersen of Kearney.
Additional survivors include 7 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.
Mrs. Hargens received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1946. After her education, she was employed at the Kaufman Drug Store in Grand Island.
She married Eugene Hargens on March 19, 1950 in Grand Island. Mr. & Mrs. Hargens farmed together in Hall County near Cairo for 27 years. Mr. Hargens died in 1978. Mrs. Hargens continued to live at Cairo until moving in 1999 to the care facility in Gering to be near her family.
She loved to garden and play cards.
Mrs. Hargens was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo, the Happy Homemakers Extension Club in Cairo and the Platte-Duetsche.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.
