Bernice K. Grotz, 83, of Greeley, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Greeley Care Home in Greeley.
Funeral services will be on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Rev. Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Mrs. Grotz was born on June 17, 1922 in Greeley to John and Lenora (Bigley) Kinney.
Survivors of the immediate family include her brother, Jim Kinney of Greeley; two step-sons, Richard and Gary Grotz both of Grand Island; two step-daughters, Sharon Hayes of Humboldt, and Karen Shorb and her husband Bill, of Mississippi.
Additional survivors include 5 step-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Grotz received her education in Greeley at Sacred Heart High School.
As a young lady she worked in Omaha for six years at St. James Orphanage and also at the telephone company.
She moved to Grand Island in 1948. She was employed at Model Cleaners and then at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. She was then employed for 23 years at Augustine Printers, and for 10 years at Rinder Printing.
She married Delbert Grotz on November 14, 1981 in Grand Island. She worked with her husband doing yard work in the Grand Island area. She loved the outdoors, gardening, raising flowers, and attending Polka dances.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, and the St. Mary’s Altar Society.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband in 2002, her parents; one sister, Mary; one brother, John; and by two sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law.
