Le Roy A. Pokorney, 65, of Grand Island, died Monday, November 21, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate.
Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Mr. Pokorney was born on August 16, 1940 in Grand Island to Albert and Ruth (Henry) Pokorney.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Diane of Grand Island; one son Allen Kohtz and his wife Jeanneth of Grand Island; his mother, Ruth Pokorney of Grand Island; three brothers, Dan Pokorney of Grand Island, Tom Pokorney of Omaha, and his special brother, David Pokorney of Grand Island; one sister and brother-in-law, Marsha & Brad Grim of Grand Island.
Additional survivors include one grandson, Adam Kohtz; and one granddaughter, Courtney Kaiser; three nieces, Tricia and Lindsey Hedglin and Amber Pokorney; three nephews, Dan Pokorney, Brian Pokorney and Jonathan Cook; and well as several great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pokorney received his education in Grand Island.
Following his education, he drove a Taxi in Grand Island.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1960, and served at Ft. Leonardwood, before his honorable discharge.
He married Terri Lynn Van Dyke in Grand Island. Together they had two sons, Scott and Allen
Mr. Pokorney was employed at Herman Plumbing, and later owned and operated his own window washing business in Grand Island. When Le Roy became ill, his brother Dave took over the business.
He married Diane Brummund on May 14, 1983 in Grand Island. Since his battle with cancer, arthritis, and diabetes began in 1990, Diane has never left his side.
Le Roy also coached Little League Baseball, and girl’s softball. He was an avid fan of all Grand Island High School sports, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed bowling, the horse races and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his father, and one infant son, Scott.
