Victoria Swanek, 96, of Grand Island died Wednesday November 16, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare at Lakeview. Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Rev. Phil Flott will officiate. Cremation was provided by Westlawn Memorial Park Crematory. Burial of the cremains will be in the Ord Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Monday. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. A gathering of friends and family will take place on Sunday from 4 to 8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Swanek was born February 26, 1909, in Valley County, NE to Stanislaus and Frances (Baran) Barnas. Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Edmund and LaVina Swanek of Council Bluffs, IA; and a daughter, Alice Ptacnik of Grand Island. Additional survivors include grandchildren and their spouses, Tom and Kelly Swanek, Cathy and Joe Gorman, Linda (Ptacnik) and David Rehovsky and Debbie (Ptacnik) and Bill Simpson; great-grandchildren and their spouses, Carolyn and J.D. White, Elizabeth and Dan Busch, Sarah Gorman, Kathleen Gorman, Eddie Gorman, Holly and Ryan Ruff, Ryan Swanek, Nick Swanek, Steven Simpson and Christina Liquori, Beth (Simpson) and Dan Dewsnap and Will Rehovsky; and great-great-grandchildren, James Ruff, Alexis Ruff and Avery White. Victoria grew up in Valley County and attended rural school. Following her education she helped on the family farm. She married Anton Swanek on July 29, 1925, at Elyria, NE. They lived in Ord and later moved to Omaha. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1966. Victoria worked at the former Holiday Plastics in Grand Island, now Leon Plastics of Alda. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral. Mrs. Swanek was preceded in death by her husband, Anton; two daughters, Priscilla and Magdaline; one sister, Helen Osentowski; one brother, Willie Barnas and her son-in-law, William “Bill” Ptacnik.
