BROWNELL, John R.


John R. Brownell, 62, longtime attorney and community leader of Grand Island, died Wednesday, October 26, 2005 in Lincoln, Nebraska while visited his son. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Pauls Lutheran Church with Revs. Lowell Knauff and Cheryl Lamb officiating. There will be no visitation. Mr. Brownell’s body was cremated. Memorials are suggested to the ALS Association, St. Francis Hospice or the community charity of the donor’s choice. John was born November 14, 1942 at Orange, New Jersey the son of George and Claire (Dannefelser) Brownell. He grew up in Westfield, New Jersey where he graduated from High School in 1960. He graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina in 1965 and Duke University Law School. He was united in marriage to Diane Powl on August 14, 1969. He entered officer candidate school before entered the Army as a First Lieutenant and serving in Viet Nam from 1970-71. He came to Grand Island after his discharge and began working with the Hall County Attorney’s office. He entered private practice and was active up to the time of his death at the Lauritsen, Brownell, Brostrom, Stehlik, Myers and Daugherty Law Firm. John is survived by his wife Diane, daughter Sara Brownell of San Franciso and son Doug and his wife Vanessa Brownell of Lincoln. He is also survived by two sisters; Susan and her husband Michael Dailey of Clyde Park, Montana and Joan Brownell and her husband Burton Williams of Fishtail, Montana and sister-in-law Barbara Sahling of Lincoln and several nieces and nephews.
