Betty L. Beekman, 76, of Grand Island, died Sunday, September 18, 2005 at the St. Francis Medical Center. Graveside services will be on Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Karen Kennerly will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Beekman was born on April 26, 1929 at North Loup, Nebraska to Lyles J. and Rosa (Lilienthal) Lacy. Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters-in law, Jerry & Shirley Beekman of Neligh, and Mike & Nancy Beekman of Hastings, one brother and sister-in-law, Edward & Kate Lacy; and a sister, Marilyn Bergman of Hermossa, Florida. Betty is also survived by four grandsons, Matthew & Heather Beekman of Elkhorn, Brent Beekman and fiancée Tonya Heath of Chadron, Christopher & Julie Beekman of Lincoln, and Brandon & Ali Beekman of Lincoln. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Robert, Kyler, and Treven. Betty graduated from Grand Island High School in 1947. She married Willis J. Beekman on August 21, 1947 in Grand Island. Betty and Willy made their home in Grand Island until 1958 when they moved to Broken Bow. While there, Betty was employed at the Jack & Jill, and the Safeway grocery stores, and then worked at the Wheelers Farm Store. They moved from Broken Bow to Hastings where she worked at the Wheelers Farm Store before returning to Grand Island. Betty volunteered for many years at the Park Place Nursing Home. She also enjoyed crafts and helping family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willis in July of 2005, two brothers, Eldon and Russell and an infant grandchild.
