GRADY, Jennie Marie

Mrs. W. C. Grady Jennie Marie Whetstone, second daughter of Allen and Rena Whetstone, was born March 18, 1886, in Gage County, Nebraska. As a small child she moved with her family to Dawes County, near Chadron, Nebraska. Later the family moved to near Wood Lake, Nebraska. She grew to young womanhood in Cherry and Keya Paha Counties in Nebraska. In 1902 she met W. C. Grady, and they were united in marriage on December 24, 1903, at Springview, Nebraska. One son was born into their home. They homesteaded in their early married life and made their home in Keya Paha County, near Norden. Their only son, Vernon Ellsworth Grady, died in October 1926. Mr. and Mrs. Grady moved to Valentine at that time and have made their home here ever since. Mrs. Grady united with the Methodist Church in Valentine. She passed away June 3, 1959, at the Sandhills General Hospital in Valentine after an illness of about a year. She is survived by her husband, W. C. Grady, four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Martin and Mrs. Mildred Brown both of Rapid City, South Dakota, Mrs. Marie Bishop Gonzales, of San Ysidro, California, and Mrs. Cecil L. Pope, of Long Beach, California; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services were conducted in the Watts Funeral home on June 6. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
