Mary J. Christensen, 85, of St. Paul, formerly of Grand Island died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Sheri Lodel will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Christensen was born January 28, 1920, at Dannevirke, NE to Marius K. and Marie K. (Pedersen) Mickelsen. Immediate survivors include two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Miner and Lola Mickelsen of Grand Island, Earl and Lola Mickelsen of Dubuque, IA and Geraldine Mickelsen of Wheatland, WY; eight sisters and six brothers-in-law, Elda Miller of St. Paul, Joy Glines of International Falls, MN, Ada and Don Pedersen of St. Paul, Anna and Darwin Meyer of Hastings, Louise and Jack McIntyre of Wolbach, June Wadas of Johnstown, CO, Helen and Ray Meyer of Thornton, CO, Dorothy and Larry Jones of Omaha and Andrew Larsen of Westminster, CA. Mary attended school in Cushing graduating in 1939. She married Elmer Christensen on Oct. 2, 1940, at Ord. Mary and Elmer served many years on the Dannevirke Cemetery board and helped in maintaining the cemetery. Mary helped as a volunteer at both the old Lutheran Hospital and later at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. She enjoyed needlepoint and did many projects. Mary was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1998, one brother, Einer Mickelsen; one sister, Eva Larsen; and a brother-in-law, Ray Wadas.
