MCDOWELL, Donald E.

Donald E. McDowell, 69 years of age from Minden, NE died on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Donald was born near Woodston, KS to Arthur and Mary (Paulsen) McDowell on April 30, 1943. He grew up in the Woodston-Stockton, KS area and graduated from Woodston High School in 1961. On December 10, 1966 he married Regina Blackburn in Phillipsburg, KS. They farmed north of Smith Center, KS, and then moved to Franklin and in 1979 moved to a farm near Axtell, NE. In 1993 they moved to Minden. Donald had farmed near Axtell and later worked at Pioneer Village. Donald was a member of New Life Assembly Church in Kearney. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work and spending time with his family. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Survivors include his wife, Regina of Minden; two daughters, Shawna Lockhorn and her husband, Brent and Shara Schurmann and her husband, Ryan both of Minden; four grandchildren, Dawson and Jadyn Lockhorn, and Bailee and Cole Schurmann; two brothers, J. R. McDowell and his wife, Cindy and Robert McDowell all to Stockton, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald, sister, Nancy and niece, Becky. Celebration of life services will be on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Life Assemble Church in Kearney with Revs. Roger Wendt and Bob Wine officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Layton-Craig is in charge of arrangements.
