Ellen Maren Morris was born on May 12, 1915 to Carl and Christine (Paulsen) Jacobsen in a sod house in Seneca, NE and passed away on November 16, 2012 at the age of 97 years at the Bethany Home in Minden. Ellen and her parents moved back to Minden about 3 years after she was born where her brother Leo was born. Her parents moved to another farm before buying a farm close to Upland. She was united in marriage to Eldon George Morris on June 17, 1937. They had four children: Carlton George, Carol Jane, Myron LeRoy and Merlin Eugene. Ellen and Eldon lived the first few years of their married life on a farm near Minden before moving to Eldon's father's homestead. They moved to Minden in 1961. Ellen helped ladies with wallpapering in Upland and worked at the Pioneer Village Motel for several years after they moved to Minden. After Eldon died on May 24, 1981, Ellen wintered in Yuma, AZ staying with her daughter Carol and family. She assisted a number of her older friends or relatives by helping them clean their houses after she stopped working at the motel. She liked to play cards with her friends, read, embroidery, dine and visit with friends at the Senior Citizen's Center, and enjoyed time with her family. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl, her mother, Christine, her husband, Eldon, her son, Carlton, and her brother, Leo. Ellen is survived by her daughter, Carol Burge (Leon) of Yuma, AZ, two sons, Myron Morris (Sheryl) of Minden, and Merlin Morris (Linda) of Youngtown, AZ; nine grandchildren: Mark Morris (Alyson), Michael Morris (Beatriz), Mary Goebel (Chris), Dawn Santeford (James), Kevin Burge (Shelley), Tammy Ellis (Tony), Sandy Long (Pat), Jennifer Kazmierczak (Joel) and Crystal Remy (Mitch); 17 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Celebration of Life/Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 20th at 2 PM at Minden Methodist Church in Minden, NE. Burial will be prior to the memorial service at the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Monday from 4-6 p.m.
