CHRISTENSEN, Doris Darlene

Doris Darlene Christensen, 81 years of age of Minden, NE died on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Kearney County Health Services-LTC in Minden. Doris was born on June 27, 1931 in Spring Ranch, NE to Pearl and Gertie (Bohlen) Fry. She was the fifth of six children. She grew up in that area and attended Pauline Schools. Later she attended Bonnell Beauty School in Hastings. On June 27, 1951 she married George Christensen and moved to a farm south of Norman, NE where they lived for many years. Doris sold Avon, gardened, babysat, loved to read and write poetry and was a member of the Snowflake Extension Club. She moved to Long Term Care three years ago and loved her coffee time, cards and the Husker games with her special friends. She also enjoyed playing in the Golden Angels Band! Survivors include a son, Norman Christensen and his wife, Karlene of Minden; two daughters, Debbie Schmitz and her husband, Matthew of Hastings and Vicki O'Brien and her husband, Randy of Ord; six grandchildren, Tyler Christensen, Megan Schmitz, Tim, Riley, Brett and Mackenzie O'Brien and a great-grandson, Myer O'Brien; two sisters Verla Rothfuss of Hastings and Opal Hinrichs of Glenvil. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, George, two infant daughters, Penny Sue and Lori Jo, granddaughter, Stacey Christensen, brother Ervin Fry and two sisters, Blanche Hesman and Esther Carpenter. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with Rev. Dan Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of arrangements.
