Josephine Eberhart
Funeral services were held Aug. 8 at the Bassett United Methodist church for Josephine Eberhart with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Music was provided by Kenneth Fling and Mrs. Dave Swanson. Burial was in the Bassett Memorial Park cemetery.
Pallbearers were Albert Gurnsey, Jr., Bill Sanger, Jerry Morton, Tom Cosgrove, Stanley Larson and Gene Cosgrove.
Minnie Josephine Eberhart was born May 7, 1897 at Wood Lake, Nebr., and died Aug. 6, 1986. Her parents were Claude B. and Minnie Reyman. She grew up on her parents ranch near Wood Lake and graduated from Ainsworth High School as valedictorian. She attended the University of Nebraska graduating with a bachelor of science degree in home economics. She earned an “N” sweater in girls athletics and was elected to Iota Sigma Phi, honorary chemistry fraternity.
She taught two years in the high school at Elmwood, then spent some time selling school reference books in Wisconsin, returning home following her father’s death. After teaching four years in a local school she was united in marriage to Clarence Merle Eberhart on May 28, 1929. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Duane (Doris) Sellin of Norfolk, Steve of Bloomington, Ill., Mrs. Merwyn (Betty) Davidson of McCook, and Mrs. John E. (Beryl) Bair of Greenville, S. C.
She was an active worker in 4-H and home extension club for many years and was the first to be honored from Rock county as an outstanding rural homemaker of the state.
She lived a dedicated Christian life working in the Valley Grove Community church teaching Sunday school and participating in the life of the church. More recently she was a member of the Berean Fundamental church of Ainsworth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle in 1964; two sisters, Hazel Grosse and Kathryn Stalnaker; and one brother, Bruce Reyman.
Survivors include her son, Steve; three daughters, Doris Sellin, Betty Davidson, Beryl Bair; one sister, Genevieve Fry of Chappell, Nebr.; 24 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
