Marlene A. Foglesong, 77 years of age from Grand Island, NE, formerly of Kearney died on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Golden Living Center-Grand Island Lakeview, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Marlene was born on January 4, 1935 in Minden, NE to Martin and Sena (Tomsen) Jorgensen. She grew up in the Minden area and graduated from Minden High School in 1952. In 1954 she married Richard “Dick” Hansen, and they farmed near Norman, Nebraska. Dick died in 1962. On August 30, 1965 she married Robert "Bob" Foglesong. They made their home and raised their family in Kearney. Bob died in 2001. Marlene managed the bookwork for Bob's painting business and was active in the farming operation near Minden. She was an avid Nebraska football fan and loved attending the games. Marlene was a very involved member of the First Lutheran Church in Kearney; she was a great cook and was very meticulous about everything she did. Over the years Marlene volunteered many hours for various organizations in the Kearney area. She loved her family, was so proud of her grandkids and was a caregiver all her life. Marlene was also a member of HATS-Helping Another To Smile. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church and the Alzheimer's Association. Survivors include son, Sam Foglesong and his wife, Lisa of Grand Island; daughter, Tara Foglesong of Grand Island; five grandchildren, Meggan Coghill and her husband, Curt of Omaha, McKenzie Roeder of Kearney, Kaiti George and her husband, Tom of Kearney, Abbey and Jack Foglesong both of Grand Island; and son in-law, Dan Roeder of Kearney. Her two husbands and daughter, Jill, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney with Rev. Rebecca McDermott officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of arrangements.
