MADSEN, Merlin

Merlin Madsen, 78 years of age from Minden died on July 12, 2012 at the Kearney County Health Services Hospital in Minden. Merlin was born on November 11, 1933 in Minden, NE. His parents were Andrew and Mildred (Collins) Madsen. He grew up in the Minden area and attended school in Minden. Merlin was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. After serving in the military he lived in North Platte. On May 28, 1960 he married Lavon Jacobsen, and they made their home in Minden. Merlin worked for Eaton's in Kearney for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Minden. Survivors include his wife, Lavon of Minden; 3 sons, Lance of Fort Morgan, CO, Randall of Minden and John of Minden; nine grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and two sisters, Shirley Ashworth and Dorothy Vogt both of Idaho. He is preceded in death by his son, Perry and three sisters. Funeral services will be on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Minden with Rev. Michael Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Fredericksburg Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Sunday from 3-5 p.m.
