James S.
James S. Hamilton, 70, died (June 11, 2012) at McCook Community Hospital in McCook, NE from a long battle with cancer. He was born, September 7, 1941, in Minden, NE to Doyle and Martha (Brainard) Hamilton. He grew up in Minden and attended Minden High School. He served in the Navy from 1959 to 1965 most of his time spent on the USS Black. James worked at the Minden Courier Newspaper as a linotype operator for a number of years. He continued in the business at Emil Strine Printing and Fifth Street Printing. In February of 1977 he married Mary (McClenahan). They moved to Culbertson, NE in 2001. He then went to work for the McCook Community College until he retired. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 32 years, and infant grandson A. J. Carlson. Survivors include two step sons, Jerry Carlson and wife, Judy of Minneapolis, MN and Robert Carlson of Columbus, NE; one step daughter, Sondra Engler of South Dakota, and two daughters; Sheila Kehler and husband, Fred of Culbertson, NE and Carrie Howard and husband, Jon of Longmont, CO; one sister Judy Lammers; many grand- children, nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Graveside services for his cremains will be Friday at 11 a.m., at the Minden Cemetery with the Rev. Nancy Lambert officiating. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of arrangements.
