WARNKEN, Herbert


Herbert Warnken, 83 years of age of Hildreth died Friday, April 13, 2012 at Long Term Care in Minden. Herb was born March 4th, 1929 to Fred and Hazel (Riefesel) Warnken in Hildreth. He grew up in the Hildreth area and graduated in 1947 from Hildreth High School. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada for 4 years. He headed a research and development team for jet engines. He married Colleen Ann Popple in July of 1969. They raised two children Kim and Kelly After the service Herb came home to farm in the Hildreth area. He also worked for the Hildreth Public Schools and was a volunteer fireman for the Hildreth Fire Department and a member of the Hildreth Lions Club. Herb was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth. Survivors include his daughter Kim Sindt and husband Steve of Inavale, son Kelly Warnken of Kearney; 5 grandchildren, Adam Sindt, Brock Sindt, Caitlyn Sindt, Riley Kishkunas and Zach Warnken; four sisters, Lorraine James from Lincoln, Lenora Westerbeck of Alma, Darlene Johnson from Colorado and Myrna Augsburger from California. Preceded in death by his wife Colleen, Parents and one sister. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with Revs. Steven and Patti Byrne officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Jelden-Craig Funeral Home in Hildreth on Monday from 3-5 and 7-8 p.m.
