Una G. Anderson, 76 of Grand Island, formerly of Axtell, Nebraska died on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Tiffany Square Retirement in Grand Island. Una was born on August 10, 1935 in Hastings, NE to Henry and Ella (Nolte) Stade. She grew up in the Lowell area and attended country school district 1. They moved to Kearney in 1948 and Una graduated from Kearney High in 1953. On November 27, 1955 she married Wesley Anderson. They made their home in Axtell. Una was the head cook for the Axtell Public Schools for 15 years. She retired in 1983. Una was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, collecting carnival glass, antique tractors and flower and vegetable gardening. They also owned and operated Yule Tree Farms, growing and selling Christmas trees. Memorials are suggested to Arthritis Foundation or the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden. Survivors include daughter, Valerie Hedgecock and her husband, Dan of Grand Island; three sons, Chuck Anderson and his wife, Billi of Columbus, Mike Anderson and his wife, Becky of Grand Island and Steve Anderson and his wife, Robin of Fort Calhoun; eight grandchildren and one sister, Lorna Hartman and her husband, Butch of Lowell. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wesley who died in 2004. Funeral services will be on Monday, April 2, 2012 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Axtell. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Sunday from 3-5 and 7-8 p.m.
