Richard (Dick) Hickman, 89 years of age from Minden, Nebraska died on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at his home in Minden. Dick was born on January 23, 1923 in Jamestown, New York to Russell and Doris (Mitchell) Hickman. He lived in the Jamestown area until joining The U.S. Marine Corp. in 1942. He served in the Pacific against the Japanese in World War II. When he got out of the Marines in 1946, he made his home in Hastings, NE. He attended the Hastings College for three years. He worked as a mechanic, body man, tool and die maker, and for Kearney State College. On January 15, 1977 he married Catharine Philpot and they lived in Minden. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Dick enjoyed radio-controlled airplanes, camping, fishing, playing pitch and had sang in bands. He loved being around his family. He is survived by wife, Cathy of Minden, four sons, Larry of Neosho, Missouri, Steve of Elm Creek, and Danny of Jamestown, New York, a daughter, Sharon Cohrs of Chanute, Kansas, Three stepchildren, Tom Jarvis of Ogallala, Earl Philpot of Petersburg, Virginia, and Polly Worley of Minden and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son. Funeral services will be on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating. Burial will be in the Fredericksburg Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Thursday from 5-7 p.m.
