Jane Eleanor (Aabel) Broeren, 74, of Leander, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2012 following a lengthy illness in Texas. She was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on May 24, 1937 to Wilhelm Morris Aabel and Pearl Mabel Emily (Nelson) Aabel. After graduating from Minden High School, Jane attended St. Anthony Practical Nursing School in Denver, Colorado. She graduated as an LPN in 1956. She met her husband, Donald, in Denver and they married on August 25, 1956 in Raton, New Mexico. Jane was known for her love of reading, rock and shell collecting, bowling, and ceramics. She was an active member of The Order of the Eastern Star for more than 55 years. She was dearly treasured by a large circle of friends and family, and was truly a blessing to all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents and twin sister, Jean Dorothy (Aabel) Escobar. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald E. Broeren, daughter Marjorie Kitzman (Leander, Texas); son Fredric Broeren (Austin, Texas); son Douglas Broeren and his wife, Deborah (Rochester, Minnesota); daughter Gwen Ross and her husband, Richard (Louisville, Colorado); son Jon Broeren and his wife, Melissa (Leander, Texas); daughter Cynthia England and her husband, Mark (Leander, Texas); 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Jane also leaves behind many relatives, good friends and devoted neighbors, especially Ward and Rojean Nelson (Wilcox, Nebraska), and Mrs. Fred (Patricia) Oeltjenbruns (Kasson, Minnesota). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11 AM at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden, Nebraska with Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating. Interment will follow at Minden Cemetery. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
