RABER, Harold “Taco”


Harold “Taco” Raber, 87 years of age from Axtell, Nebraska, formerly of Upland, NE died on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Kearney County Health Services-Hospital in Minden. Harold was born on March 14, 1924 in Newton, Iowa to Harold C. and Mary (Wonders) Raber. When Harold was young the family moved to a farm south of Upland. He attended country school. Harold served in the Merchant Marines during World War II in the south Pacific from 1942 until 1945. He married JoAnne Schroeder on December 24, 1945 and they were blessed with four children, Sharon, Kathy, Kim and Jeff. They made their home in the Upland Community. JoAnne died in 1996. Taco farmed, was a café owner, drove truck and then worked as a heavy equipment operator for both Franklin and Kearney County. He enjoyed wood working visiting with his friends and family. In retirement enjoyed just being around people. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Bullock and her husband, Thomas of Hutchinson, KS, Kathy Sorensen and her friend Frank Wardlow of Cowgil, MO, Kim Schuyler and her husband, Ron of Omaha, NE; one son, Jeff Raber of Upland; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, and one brother, Ivan. Memorial services will be on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Craig Funeral Home in Minden with Ivan Schoone officiating. Burial of his cremains will be in the Upland Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Minden American Legion and the Heartwell VFW. No visitation.
