BORGAARD, Robert Chris

Robert Chris Borgaard, 89 years of age rode his John Deere tractor from this worldly farm on Thursday, September 15, 2011. He passed away at the Bethany Home in Minden. Robert was born on June 26, 1922 on the family farm to Anton and Carrie (Tomsen) Borgaard. He grew up in the Minden area and graduated from Minden High School. He farmed and trucked with his father and brother, Harry. On July 27, 1957 he married Wanda Fisher in Kearney. They lived and farmed south of Minden. Robert was a member of the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church. He was active in 4-H and never missed the Nebraska State Fair until his health prevented going. He was a member of the Good Sam's Camping Club since 1979. He and Wanda enjoyed traveling the United States in their camper. Robert was proud to have received the Pioneer Farm Award for 100 years of ownership of the family farm. Survivors include daughter, Cindy Hartzell of Ogden, UT; 2 grandchildren, Robby and Jenna; son in-law, Arnie Hayman and family of Ogden, UT; stepson, Robert T. Meyer of Ralston; sister, Ellen Crooker of Alaska. He is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, stepdaughter, Beverly Hayman and brother, Harry. Graveside services will be on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. the Fredericksburg Lutheran Cemetery with Revs. Baron and Nancy Cole officiating. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Friday from 5-7 p.m.
