Minnie Lorentzen, 98 years of age from Kearney, NE, formerly of Axtell died on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney. Minnie was born on October 4, 1912 in Cozad, NE to Jens and Ebbeline (Lorensen) Jensen. She grew up in the Cozad area and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church near Cozad. On August 15, 1934 she married Harry Lorentzen in Lexington. They farmed for a time near Cozad and then moved to Axtell area and farmed. She became a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church south of Axtell on June 27, 1948. Minnie was an active member at Bethany, enjoying the circles and groups of the church. She was a 4-H leader and loved to cook for her family and friends. She crocheted and quilted. Minnie was always a caregiver to others. Survivors include three sons, Larry Lorentzen and his wife, Fran of Kearney, Alan Lorentzen and his wife, Clara of La Porte, Indiana and Edward Lorentzen and his wife, Dorothy of Reno, NV; three daughters, Laura Veal and her husband, Vernon of Bloomington, Ill, Lanna Mitchell and her husband, Dale of Cozad and Linda Ehrke and her husband, John of Stamford, NE; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry, son Dennis and grandson, Curtis. Memorial services will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church south of Axtell with Rev. David Evenson officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday morning at 11:15 a.m. in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Cozad. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
