Maxine Cavanaugh, 91 years of age from Minden NE died on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Kearney County Health Services, Long Term Care Unit in Minden. Maxine was born on January 16, 1920 in Seward, Nebraska to Edward and Dressie (Kain) Willis. They moved to the Minden area and Maxine attended school in Heartwell and then graduated from Norman High School in 1937. On April 7, 1942 she married James Patrick Cavanaugh. They lived and farmed in the Minden area. James died in 1960. Maxine worked in the kitchen of Minden Public Schools for many years. She later owned and operated the Cavanaugh Beauty Shop for many years in Minden. Maxine loved being with her children and grandchildren, she was an avid reader and also enjoyed walking. She was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Minden and the altar society. Survivors include daughter, Judie Gilgen of Upland; four grandchildren, Wendi Haffey and her husband, Jeff of Axtell, Shannon Graham and her husband, Joe of Hastings, Shane Hoban and his wife, Cathy of Kearney and Erin Emal of Denver, CO; five great grandchildren, Blake Haffey, Kaitlyn Graham, Lindsey Graham, Zachery Hoban and Amber Hoban and one great great grandson, Aiden Dieken. She is preceded in death by her husband, James, daughter, Sandra Cavanaugh Bjorklund, granddaughter, Shalene Hoban, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral service will be on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John's Catholic Church in Minden with Father Nicholas Baker officiating. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the church on Wednesday evening. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery.
