Francel Geraldine Rodine, 93 of Axtell, NE died Saturday June 11, 2011 at Bethany Home in Minden. Services will be at 2:00pm Friday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Axtell with Pastor David Evenson officiating. Burial will be at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 pm on Thursday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden. Francel was born January 11, 1918 in Kearney County, Nebraska to Arvid and Laura (Sandall) Peterson. She graduated from Minden High School in 1934. On November 29, 1936 she married Alvin Rodine in Axtell. They purchased the C.O. Carlson store in Axtell in 1944 and named it Rodine's IGA where Francel sold her rye bread. They owned and operated the store until they retired in 1977. Francel was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and participated in Women's Circle making quilt tops for many years. In addition she was a member of the HOA club, various card clubs and Bible studies. Francel enjoyed spending time with her family and playing cards. Survivors include children, Karen Woods of Venice, Florida, Judy Erickson and her husband Harold of Queens Creek, Arizona and Joan Frerichs of Axtell; grandchildren, Rhonda Schott and her husband Lewis, Kevin Woods and his wife Kathleen, Kim Baker, Kathy Wright, Jeff Erickson and his wife Ingrid, Jon Erickson, Ann Johnson and her husband Derick, Nathan Frerichs and his wife Jamie, and Brent Frerichs; great-grandchildren, Patrick, Mary Kate, Jack, and Bridget Woods, Erin and Thomas Reilly, Joseph Nieves, Tatum Wright, Ryan and Lauren Erickson, Josh and Alex Erickson, Brynn, Brock and Kate Johnson. Sister, Donna Ericson McMurtry of Loup City, sister- in -law Ione Peterson, sister-in-law LaVerne Rodine and many other relatives and friends. She was preceeded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Mervin, Earl, Donnie, Bob and his wife Helen Peterson, son-in- law Roger Frerichs, and great-grandson Dillon Baker.
