Renée Dorothy Lieske, 87, of Minden died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Long Term Care in Minden. Renée was born October 14, 1923 to Iner and Mary (Ostergaard) Johnson in Upland. She attended Osco School for her elementary education, entered Campbell High School where she graduated as Salutatorian in 1941. She attended Kearney State Teachers College the summer after graduating high school. Renée began teaching in Franklin Co., District no. 39 in September of 1941 and taught three years. On July 21,1945 she was married to Gerald Richard Lieske. They honeymooned in Spokane and Seattle Washington where Gerald was shipped out for Japan. Renée returned to Franklin County and taught at District no. 46 for another four years. To this union three boys were born, David, Thomas and Timothy. They were married almost 55 years before Gerald's death on May 2, 2000. In 1961 she became office assistant for the Kearney County Extension Office, serving in that position for 33 years. Renée was church organist at the Upland Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed sewing, flowers and gardening. She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML). Survivors include her children, David Lieske and wife, Sherry of Kearney, Tom Lieske and wife, Mary of Minden and Tim Lieske and wife, Brenda of Lincoln; grandchildren, Brett Lieske and his wife, Sarah, Adam Lieske, Shon Lieske and his wife, Jody, Jessica Lupo and her husband, Aaron, Dylan Lieske, Seth Lieske and his wife, Jill, Mindee Lieske and fiancé Nate, Joey Carder and fiancé Jaime, and Missy Carder; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; her parents; sister, Gaynelle Meiner and brother, Gordon Johnson. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, KCHS Long Term Care or Aseracare Hospice. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Burial will be in the Upland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Horner, Lieske, McBride & Kuhl in Kearney and Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden are in charge of arrangements.
