Barbara Pauline Larsen, 91 years of age from Minden died on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Kearney County Health Services-Hospital in Minden. Barbara was born on December 6, 1919 in Kearney County, Nebraska to Julian Joseph and Laura (Johnson) Hinterlong. She grew up in the Minden area and graduated from Minden High School in 1938. Following her graduation from Kearney State College (now the University of Nebraska, Kearney), with a BA degree in 1943, she taught school in Ogallala, Elkhorn, and Wolbach, Nebraska. On August 14, 1946 she married David Larsen and lived and farmed the Larsen and Hinterlong Farms until retiring in 1985 and moving into Minden. In addition to being David's life and business partner for their 49 years of marriage, Barbara was involved as a volunteer in various community organizations. She was a very active member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her daughter, Julianne Joy Larsen and her husband, James Forbes of Del Mar, California; 4 sisters-in-law, Martha Larsen Ellis of Minden, Helen Marie Larsen and Martha Moon Larsen of Loveland, Colorado, and Maurine Walker Larsen of Washington, Iowa. Barbara is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and a community of caring friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, David, in 1996. Memorial services will be on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with Don Canady officiating. Burial will be prior to the memorial service in the Minden Cemetery.
