THOMPSON, Dora M.

Dora M. Thompson, 96 years of age from Minden, Nebraska, died on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Bethany Home in Minden. Dora was born in Upland, Nebraska to Jens and Christina (Andersen) Ibsen on December 4, 1914. She grew up in the Upland area and graduated from Upland High School. Dora married Charles Thompson, Jr. on May 4, 1936, and they lived and farmed near Upland. Charles died in 1961. Dora moved into Minden in 1962. Dora was an active member of the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church south of Minden. She worked at the City Café in Minden and later worked in housekeeping at the Kearney County Community Hospital. Dora enjoyed cooking and baking for her friends and family. Her grandchildren all enjoyed her special birthday cakes for all of them each year. Dora's family was truly her life. Survivors include one son, Gene Thompson of Upland and his fiancée, Melva Schoone; two daughters, Jeanette Paulsen and her husband, Andy of Minden and Shirley Loskill of Hastings; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Her husband, Charles; daughter, Janice; son in-law, Gene Johnson; daughter in-law, Carolyn Thompson; and son in-law, Richard Loskill, precede her in death. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church south of Minden with Revs. Baron and Nancy Cole officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Fredericksburg Cemetery Fund.
