Charles E.
Charles E. Nielsen of Minden died at the age of 92 on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Bethany Home in Minden. Charles was born on February 26, 1919 north of Upland, Nebraska in Kearney County to John J. B. and Mariane (Paulsen) Nielsen. He grew up north of Upland and graduated from Upland High School. Charles attended Dana College where he met, and later married Marilyn M. Seger. They had the same birthday, February 26, and were married on that special day in 1942 at Marilyn's parents home in Omaha. Their life was devoted to working the family farm south of Minden. After retiring from farming, they moved to Minden. Charles was employed by Tri-County Irrigation District from 1969 to 1981. Charles was an active member of Fredericksburg Lutheran Church, south of Minden, where he served on many committees and boards. He was very meticulous about everything. He had a talent for woodworking and carpentry. He and Marilyn gardened, worked in the yard, canned produce and quilted together. They truly enjoyed their 69 years of married life. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Minden; two sons, Gary Nielsen and his wife, Mary of Minden and Terry Nielsen and his wife, Sandy of Bellevue, NE; daughter, Sharie Hubert and her husband, Andy of Geneva; nine grandchildren, Kay Holt and her husband, Rusty, Kevin Nielsen and his wife, Sabrina, Kurt Nielsen and his wife, Stephanie, Kim Quandt and her husband, Karl, Kent Nielsen and his wife, Holly, Megan Vander Haar and her husband, Jade, Erik Nielsen, Paul Hubert and Evan Hubert; 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Fredericksburg Lutheran Church south of Minden with Revs. Baron and Nancy Cole officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Bethany Home in Minden on Friday, March 11, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. and at Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Fredericksburg Lutheran Church or Lutheran World Relief.
