SWANSON, Milton T.


Milton T. Swanson, 73 years of age from Minden, Nebraska died on Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Milton was born on April 14, 1937 in Fullerton, Nebraska to Milford and Faye (Weeks) Swanson. He grew up in the North Star community in Nance County and graduated from Fullerton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 until 1958. Milton married Ramona Maddox on October 4, 1959 and they made their home in Minden. He worked for Mervin Peterson at Kearney County Farm Supply and later worked at Minden Grain. In 1982 Milton was injured by a falling tree and suffered a spinal cord injury. After his injury he remained very independent and was an inspiration to all who knew him. Milton was a member of the First Christian Church in Minden and had served on many committees within the church. He also enjoyed his hobby of woodcarving and making angels after his accident. He enjoyed being with his family. Survivors include his wife, Ramona of Minden; three daughters, Lori Larsen and her husband, Walt of York, NE, Lisa Reynolds and her husband, Mike of Pflugerville, TX and Denise Porter and her husband, Eric of Johnson City, TX; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter: one sister, Pat Lee of Fullerton and mother in-law, Martha Maddox of St. Paul. He is preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Minden with Rev. Richard Bacon officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Burial will be at the Minden Cemetery prior to the memorial service.
