Mobie Chappell died peacefully on February 3, 2011 at the Bethany Home in Minden. She was born Bettie Lee Dick on March 5, 1925, in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Dean and Mida Mae (Stoddard) Dick. She grew up in the Fort Morgan area and graduated from Fort Morgan High School. Mobie attended the University of Nebraska School of Nursing where she met and later married Elliott Rae Chappell, M.D. on May 14, 1946. In 1948 they settled in Minden where she devoted her life to her family and home. In 1953 the family moved to Louisville, Kentucky. They returned to Minden in 1962. In 1977 they moved to Kearney and in 1987 Dr. Chappell retired from practice. In 1988 they returned to Minden, building a log-constructed home for their retirement years. Mobie was an avid bridge player and was honored last year for her many years of membership in Kearney PEO chapter HB. She was also a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden. The family wishes to thank all of Mobie's neighbors and friends who were so supportive and helpful in keeping her independent in her own home with her yard, flowers, and garden for as long as it was possible. A special thanks to the devoted staff at Bethany Home for their friendship and tender loving care in her final years. She is survived by three sons, Dick Chappell and his wife Cheryl of Omaha; Bob Chappell and his wife Sherry of Littleton, CO; and Tim Chappell and his wife Peggy of Plano, TX; as well as five grandchildren, Kimberlee Torrence and her husband, Nick of St Louis, MO; Megan Chappell of San Diego, CA; Nic Chappell of Dallas, TX; Laura Chappell of Tucson, AZ; Leslie Chappell of Fort Collins, CO; and step-grandsons Tom Flynn of Gunnison, CO and Kevin Flynn and his wife, Nicole of Seattle, WA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elliott Rae Chappell; parents, Dean and Mae Dick; grandson, William Gregory Chappell; in-laws, W.E. and Mona Chappell and aunt Pearl Saltzgaber. A memorial celebration of her life and family visitation will be held at the Bethany Home Chapel on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Larry and Peggy Rush officiating. A private family interment will be at the Liberty Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Bethany Home Foundation, Minden, Nebraska or the Kearney County Community Foundation.
