TALBERT, Arden


Arden Talbert, 74 years of age from Minden, Nebraska died on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Bethany Home in Minden. Arden was born on October 2, 1936 in Minden, Nebraska to Wilmer and Myrtha (Jacobsen) Talbert. Arden grew up in the Heartwell-Minden area. He attended school in Kenesaw and then in Minden. He graduated from Minden High School in 1954. He attended Sterling College for two years and then served in the U. S. Army. He served in Korea and was discharged in 1960. In 1961 he married Lois Nelson, and they were blessed with four sons, Matthew, Nathan, Paul and Mark. They lived in the Minden area and Arden owned and operated Talbert Land Leveling. He sold his business in 1988 and moved to California for two years, returning to Minden and working for the City of Minden in the street department. Arden then worked at the Pioneer Village in the maintenance department. Arden was instrumental in organizing the Pioneer Farming Days in Minden along with the rest of the Talbert family. Pioneer Farming Days ran for 26 years with the hard work of the Talbert family. Arden enjoyed collecting farm toys, restoring Case tractors, riding motorcycles in his early years and collecting cars. He sang in the church choir as well as many community events over the years. Music was an important part of his life. He was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden and the Heartwell Lions Club. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Survivors include his four sons, Matthew Talbert and his wife, Penny of Minden, Nathan Talbert of Kearney, Paul Talbert and his wife, Shauna of Kearney and Mark Talbert and his wife, Sarah of Wahoo, NE; 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Jason, Tad, Mercedes, Andrew, Bryon, Keathan, Kalei, Emma, Morgan, Colton and Madison; one brother, Alden Talbert and his wife, Wilma of Heartwell. He is preceded in death by granddaughter, Melissa Talbert; sister, Nelia Greer and her husband, Ralph. Funeral services will be on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with Don Canady officiating. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.
