Dorothy Kester, 92 of Minden, Ne died Thursday Jan 20, 2011 at Bethany Home where she had lived since 2004. She was born in Kearney County, Nebraska on January 11, 1919 to Alfred and Lillie (Christensen) Johnson where they lived on a farm 7 miles South of Norman. She attended Osco School and graduated from Minden High School in 1938. She went to Los Angeles, CA where she worked at various jobs. She went to visit her cousins and some classmates in Denver, CO and that is where she met Floyd on a blind date and stayed there for a year and then they got married on June 26, 1942. Then they went to CA and Floyd went overseas due to the war. While he was gone she worked at the Taft Bldg. where they ran the elevators up & down for the customers. Sometimes they would be given tickets to take in the live broadcasts that various celebrities were doing. After the war was over and Floyd returned they moved into Hawthorne, CA and made their home there and son Richard was born. They returned to Minden in 1962 where they made their home and attended the First Christian Church in Minden. After husband Floyd passed away in 1990 she moved to Kearney later and attended the First Baptist Church. She returned to Minden in 2004 & resided at Bethany Home Assisted Living She is survived by son Richard and wife Rose, of Minden, granddaughter Pamela, and great granddaughters, Savannah, Faith & Genevieve. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, and parents Alfred and Lillie Johnson. Funeral services will be on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 10:30 at the First Christian Church in Minden with Rev. Richard Bacon officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Sunday from 3-5 p.m.
