RUMERY, Julia “Judy”

Julia “Judy” Rumery, 82 years of age from Minden, Nebraska passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Bethany Home in Minden. Judy was born on August 25, 1928 in Mount Vernon, IL to Raymond and Fern (Baker) Rutherford. She was a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelors degree in journalism. On May 22, 1951 she married Robert (Bob) Rumery. They moved to San Antonio Texas were Bob was stationed. They moved to New Orleans LA after Bob was discharged and lived in Atlanta GA, Nashville TN, and Champaign IL before settling in Bloomington-Normal IL in 1965. After settling in Bloomington-Normal, Bob was a professor at Illinois State University and Judy worked with public relations for the Girl Scout Council. Both were active in the Episcopal Church and the family spent time every summer camping. Judy was also an accomplished seamstress. Robert died in 1998 and Judy moved to Minden in 2006 to be closer to her daughter. Judy attended Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with her daughter until she moved into assisted living at Bethany Home. Memorials are suggested to the Nature Conservancy at 1007 Leavenworth St., Omaha, NE 68102. Memorial funds will be used to benefit the efforts of the Aurora office of the Nature Conservancy. Survivors include daughter, Jennifer Rumery and her husband, Grant Newbold of Minden; son, Paul Rumery of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Elliot Newbold, Lincoln, NE, Clark Newbold, Laramie WY, and Levi Rumery, Phoenix, AZ. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert and brother, Russell Rutherford. She will be greatly missed by family and friends that she has left behind. Memorial services will be on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bethany Home Chapel in Minden with Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
